Understanding the cost of respite

The amount individuals pay depends on the type of respite care they receive. Carers can access Government funding or can choose to pay for respite services privately.

Residential respite

Residential respite fees differ from fees for permanent residents.

Individuals are required to pay a basic daily fee, which is set by the government at 85% of the single basic age pension. This fee is updated by the Government twice a year in line with increases to the age pension. Updated pricing can be found on the Department of Health website
