Caring for carers with centre-based respite

Our centre-based respite care centres in Perth and Broome provide a safe and social respite care option for individuals when their carers need a short break.

We have three dedicated respite centres: Tony Quinlan Respite Centre in Hilton, Donovan House Respite Centre in Forrestfield and Bran Nue Dae in Broome.

Our centre-based respite centres have been specifically designed to create a warm, comfortable, and welcoming ‘home away from home’.

Our Perth-based centres offer day and overnight care, while our Bran Nue Dae Centre in Broome provides day activities only.

Our centre-based respite services can be used as a one-off or on a regular basis.

Take a temporary break from caring responsibilities and let our staff care for your loved one for a few hours or the entire day.

If you need a day to yourself, we can look after everything from transport to and from the centre to daily activities and meals. Our three centres provide a caring, supportive environment for up to 15 clients daily.

Clients can choose from various daily activities and social events to boost their wellness and stay healthy.

Some everyday activities include:

  • Art and craft days, including knitting and flower-making
  • Tai Chi, bowls and seated exercises
  • Short-day and half-day trips
  • Theme and movie days
  • Games, puzzles, cards and quizzes
  • Gardening and outdoor activities
  • Reading newspapers, magazines or books from the mini library
  • Enjoy time with Clover, the black Labrador who occasionally comes to stay with us at Tony Quinlan Respite Centre
  • Resting and relaxing in a variety of welcoming spaces

Take a longer break with overnight care

Our overnight centre-based respite service accommodates short stays from one night up to four weeks.

Overnight or weekend care may be provided under ‘cottage style’ respite at either Tony Quinlan, which can accommodate up to 6 overnight clients, or Donovan House Respite Centre, which can accommodate up to 5 overnight clients at a time. This is a short-term solution when the need arises and can be used at any point.

Have peace of mind knowing your loved one is being cared for in a safe environment with 24-hour staffing and support.

Overnight respite clients have their own single bedroom with adjustable beds, access to shared bathrooms, all daily meals provided, a staff call system and a flexible activity program. Special dietary requirements can also be catered for.

Residential respite care

Residential respite care offers 24/7 care within one of our aged care homes for a set period of time.
