SCC (WA) congratulates our elected politicians for reaching a bipartisan agreement to introduce reforms through the new Aged Care Act. This is a significant step towards enhancing the quality of care and support for our elderly population.
The proposed new, rights-based Act comes three years after the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety which identified the urgent need for a new Aged Care Act as its top recommendation.
“I commend the Government for their leadership through the proposed changes and the Coalition for their bipartisan support after months of negotiation,” CEO Clare Grieveson said.
“This unified approach sends a powerful message that the needs and voices of our older population are important and prioritised.
“One of the most pressing challenges we face in the sector is the rising cost of providing quality care for our aging population. The importance of the new rights-based Aged Care Act cannot be overstated and will play a crucial role in securing the future of aged care in Australia.
“The aged care sector faces challenges to prepare and invest for expected demand and a workforce to support it, while delivering essential quality improvements. The new reforms will ensure the industry is sustainable and enable aged care providers to provide ongoing high-quality care.
“These reforms will bring structured and sustainable financial security to the sector, leading to a vibrant, growing aged care system, that meets the needs of older Australians now and in the future.
“We welcome this clarity and stability for the aged care sector, and as an industry, we are optimistic about the positive impact these reforms will have.”
