Southern Cross Care recognised by Water Corp for commitment to reducing water waste

Southern Cross Care (SCC), has been recognised at the Water Corporation’s 2019 Waterwise Recognition Event as a ‘Gold Waterwise Business’ for our outstanding commitment to reducing water waste at our retirement village and residential care facility in Success.

SCC received the award for water management initiatives implemented at SCC’s Success Village and Frank Prendergast House as part of the Water Corporations Waterwise Business Program, resulting in a significant improvement in water usage.

Led by SCC’s Asset and Infrastructure team in partnership with the staff, residents and their families, some of the key water reduction initiatives implemented at the site included improving irrigation efficiency in the Village gardens by identifying faulty sprinklers and controllers, transforming the gardens to minimise water use and sharing water expenditure and usage information with residents to empower them to make water wise choices.

The award reflects SCC’s broader commitment to being an environmentally friendly organisation. In recent years, SCC has taken a number of steps to reduce our environmental footprint across all of our sites. Not only is this good for the environment, but as a not-for-profit aged care provider it also means we can reduce our operating costs, so we can invest in more facilities and services to benefit our residents and clients.

SCC would like to pay tribute to our hard-working Assets and Infrastructure team who led these water reduction initiatives and thank residents and staff at SCC’s Success Village and Frank Prendergast House for their support in making the site more water efficient.
