Robert, who is one of our Home Care clients, recently enjoyed his first fishing experience through not-for-profit group, Fishability, with support from one of our senior support workers.
Initially organised as a trial to see if fishing would be a good fit for clients, the excursion was a huge success with Robert and his support worker having a terrific time. He thoroughly enjoyed the outing and caught his first fish within 30 minutes! Of course, he didn’t take his ‘catch of the day’ home and safely put the fish back in the water.
Fishability assists children and adults requiring support to experience the joy of fishing with assistance from trained and experienced volunteers and by using purpose-built motorised rods, reels and fishing rod holders. The organisation has ongoing support from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and industry partners Act-Belong-Commit and Recfishwest.
The success of this activity could lead to more Southern Plus clients experiencing the joys of fishing.
