As part of Dementia Week, on September 19th SCC’s Frank Prendergast House (FPH) hosted its annual art exhibition for residents, friends and family with 75 pieces of residents’ artwork on display.
Each of the 18 residents who participated in the exhibition received a certificate and a small potted plant. All guests and residents were also able to vote for their favourite artwork piece, with the most popular receiving the ‘People’s Choice Award’, with the winner receiving a small prize and a certificate of achievement.
One of the resident’s family members said it was lovely to be able to celebrate the wonderful efforts of the residents.
“It was absolutely fantastic to celebrate residents in such a beautiful way, especially as it is dementia week. It was extremely well done”.
Jessie Ho, the head of residential care at Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc. said the art exhibition was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the amazing work of residents and the hardworking staff who support them.
“Art therapy provides so many benefits for residents and is one of the more popular resident activities here at FPH. Residents enjoy being able to be creative and you can see they are so proud of the work they have created.
“I would like to thank family members and friends who joined us on the day and also thank residents and staff for all of their hard work and efforts in making this event such a great success,” Jessie said.
