Proof that you are never too old to enjoy a bike ride

Beach to Bush returns to Kalgoorlie.

Blankets draped across laps and smiles stretching ear to ear, residents from Victoria Park House could hardly contain their excitement as they prepared for a memorable day in the bush.

For many, the return of Motion by the Ocean‘s Beach to Bush program was something they had been talking about for weeks. The organisation first visited Kalgoorlie last year, leaving residents with unforgettable memories and a sense of adventure long after the pedals stopped moving.

When residents heard the Beach to Bush program was returning, demand quickly outgrew the available seats.

“There was so much excitement that when we found out it was coming back, we could not get enough residents into the bus to go out to the bush track,” Victoria Park House Manager Cheryl Hahn said.

There was a buzz in the air as the bus arrived. As residents gathered for the outing, one question became the mantra for the morning: “When are we leaving?”. They could not wait to get outdoors, feel the wind on their faces and experience the thrill of the ride again. Among those enjoying the adventure were residents Helen Green and Beverley Allnutt, who joined fellow residents for a day of fun, freedom and connection.

Then came the moment they had been waiting for.

With a little help, residents climbed aboard the specially adapted riding equipment. With one ‘driver’ and two passengers per bike, they set off along the bush tracks. Laughter travelled along the convoy. Cardigans fluttered in the breeze. Everyone took in the sights, sounds and fresh air of the Goldfields.

For some, it was more than just an outing. It was a chance to relive treasured memories from years gone by.

“I had residents who went on the outing who never go anywhere, and they came back full of smiles and talking about how much fun it was,” Cheryl shared. “It made them feel so much younger, and the excitement as they whirled around the bush tracks brought back memories of their younger days riding bikes.”

The day was a reminder that adventure can be part of life at any age, and proof that you are never too old to enjoy a bike ride.
