Southern Cross Care’s Villa Pelletier facility has turned 40. Located in a highly sort after position in West Leederville - Villa Pelletier was originally owned and operated by the Sisters of Good Shepherd providing accommodation for elderly women and women in need.
Celebrations took place yesterday at Villa Pelletier with over 100 guests attending. A special mention was made for Ada Furby who celebrated her 108th birthday this year. Ada has been at the facility for the full 40 years.
Daisy Green and Thora Brenchley have also been residents at Villa Pelletier for a this 40 year period. Sister Geraldine Mitchell, Area Leader of the Good Shepherd Sisters Perth has been a carer at Villa Pelletier for 40 years and has established long standing relationships with many residents.
“The most rewarding part of this job is seeing the interaction provided by the local community and people. The neighbours, the local parishioners and those in the wider community have really stimulated the ladies and given them a lot of direction in their lives," she said.
Since its opening in November 1971, Villa Pelletier provides low care and mental health services for residents. Over the years, the Sisters of Good Shepherd were no longer able to operate the facility and Villa Pelletier was later transferred to Southern Cross Homes in 1985, today it is Southern Cross Care’s oldest residential care facility.
Southern Cross Care Chairman, John Bryant commended the long standing relationship with the Sisters of Good Shepherd.
“Villa would not be here today if it were not for the work of the Good Shepherd Sisters. Southern Cross Care is proud of its continued relationship with the Sisters,” he said.
Today Villa Pelletier offers residential care to both men and women and maintains its close links with the Good Shepherd Community. The Villa is currently home to 39 residents.
Villa Pelletier promotes an interactive style of living featuring 40 single bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Rooms offer build in robes and basins and a 24 hour call security system.
Residents and visitors are able to socialise with friends and family in one of the five lounge areas, recreation room, courtyard or three dining rooms.
Southern Cross Care congratulates its residents and employees for making Villa Pelletier’s 40th anniversary one to remember, and are looking forward to the next 40 years.
